How This Comparison Works

Stocks & ETFs & Crypto

We use the same daily adjusted-close price data and calculation engines as the individual calculators. The provider’s adjusted-close price series incorporates its dividend and split adjustments. The calculator does not add dividends again.

We use the same historical daily USD closing-price data as the Crypto calculator. Crypto trades continuously; these records represent UTC calendar days, rather than an official market close. Staking rewards, lending interest, fees and taxes are excluded.

Savings

Savings Rate is your selected yearly interest rate. Savings uses your selected effective annual rate and the existing formula: Balance × (1 + annual rate)^(days ÷ 365). The one-time investment earns interest from the effective start date through the selected end date. Savings does not occupy an investment slot.

Dates and one-time investments

The full investment amount applies independently to every asset. The comparison uses a common available purchase date so each scenario and the Savings benchmark start together. Any change from your requested date is shown in the results. If an asset’s history starts later, choose an available common period.

Frequently Asked Questions

About this calculator and its data.
How many investments can I compare?

Free comparisons support up to 3 stocks, 3 ETFs or 3 crypto assets within one asset class. Advanced Compare supports up to 5 investments and requires Pro access, which is not available yet.

Does Savings count toward my comparison limit?

No. Savings is a separate benchmark, available in every comparison mode.

Can I compare a stock with an ETF or crypto?

Mixing asset classes is reserved for Advanced Compare. That mode stays locked until Pro access is available.

Are dividends and stock splits included?

Stock and ETF calculations use the provider’s adjusted-close price series, which incorporates dividend and split adjustments. Dividends are not added a second time.

How are crypto returns calculated?

Historical Return = (End closing price ÷ Start closing price − 1) × 100%. Crypto calculations use daily USD closing prices and exclude staking and lending rewards.

Is my investment split between the assets?

No. Each scenario invests the full one-time amount. This compares alternatives; it is not a portfolio allocation.

What if historical data is missing?

We identify the affected asset and do not invent prices or silently remove it. Successfully loaded assets remain visible. If an asset started trading later, choose a later common start date before making a complete comparison.

Why can actual dates differ from my selected dates?

Stocks and ETFs do not trade on weekends or market holidays. Their prices use available trading days, shown as “Actual trading dates” in each result card.

Crypto trades daily. Its “Actual price dates” use completed daily USD closing records; a day still in progress or a record still updating may not be available yet.

All scenarios use a common available investment start date. Savings interest continues through the selected end date. If history begins later, choose an available common period.

What is the difference between Price CAGR and Annualized Return?

Price CAGR describes the annualized growth of an asset’s price. Annualized Return describes the investment’s average yearly growth. This Compare page keeps the Annualized Return label.

For these one-time buy-and-hold comparisons, they can show the same percentage because the investment uses the same price history and holding period. Recurring investments require an annualized return that also accounts for contribution timing.

What do Maximum Drawdown and Avg. Daily Price Movement mean?

Maximum Drawdown

Maximum Drawdown is the largest percentage decline from a previous high within your selected period. The first available trading-day price is the initial high. As prices reach new highs, the reference high updates. Each later price is compared with the highest price reached so far.

Daily drawdown = (Daily adjusted closing price ÷ Highest adjusted closing price so far − 1) × 100%. Maximum Drawdown is the most negative daily drawdown. For example, prices of $100 → $80 → $90 → $45 give a Maximum Drawdown of −55%, from $100 to $45. A recovery does not erase an earlier decline.

Only actual trading-day adjusted closing prices inside your selected date range count. Earlier peaks, intraday highs and lows, and non-trading-day savings entries are excluded. Your investment amount does not affect this percentage.

Avg. Daily Price Movement

Avg. Daily Price Movement describes how much the adjusted closing price typically moved per trading day, up or down, during your selected period. It averages the absolute daily percentage changes, so gains and losses do not cancel out.

Daily price change = (Today’s adjusted closing price ÷ Previous trading day’s adjusted closing price − 1) × 100%. Take the absolute value of each change, then add them and divide by the number of daily changes. For example, changes of +2% and −2% give an average movement of 2%, rather than 0%.

With 752 trading-day prices, there are 751 daily changes. Weekends and market holidays are not separate observations; each price is compared with the previous available trading-day price. This is a descriptive average, not a forecast or a formal volatility measure.

What does Savings Rate mean?

Savings Rate is the yearly interest rate you choose for the savings benchmark. For example, 4% per year means a 4% annual rate. It is a selected benchmark rate, rather than a historical asset return. Use Cash (0% interest) uses zero interest.

Can I compare recurring investments here?

This page compares one-time investments. For regular contributions, choose one of your selected assets below and open the DCA Investment Calculator. Each DCA scenario calculates one asset; it does not turn this comparison into a recurring-investment comparison.
